Dealer or Croupier? The most difficult table to work in Casino.

Technically, a dealer and croupier is describing the same job but in common parlance the dealer is usually seen as the worker manning the Blackjack, Baccarat and Poker tables while a croupier is spinning the roulette wheel or watching the dice get thrown.

With the popularity of games like online blackjack or online roulette on the rise, you might be an avid player who doesn’t encounter them face to face, but being a casino dealer is one of the most difficult jobs out there. You’ll find no end of places talking about how difficult the job is, but which table is the hardest to work? Blackjack? Craps?

First things first, let’s talk about the difficulties you face as a casino dealer. The hardest thing is probably the mathematics side of things, you have to keep a track of a colossal amount of numbers for a sustained period.

When it comes to games like Blackjack, you can do thousands of calculations in an hour and the mental strain is considerable, second only to the physical strain as you must stand for long periods and also work rapidly as you deal hands.

The last problem is remaining charming, affable and keeping your customers entertained as you work, dealing with any abuse or upset patrons they encounter. With that in mind, let’s look at the tables themselves.

Craps- Craps might look fairly simple but the nature of the bets you can place ups the difficulty considerably. With a big table and lots of gamblers all playing at once, you can end up with some complicated paying out that occurs that you need to work out quickly so the shooter can throw again. It’s probably fair to say the math for the Craps table is the most complex in the casino. The other major difficulty is the cheating; you need to have eyes like a hawk and with trick dice still in common circulation and so much going on, the Craps table can be a difficult one to man.

Roulette- Roulette is a little simpler when it comes to the bets, a clearly marked table and with three possible positions for a win and odds to match, the mental maths involved will be significantly simpler than the Craps table. The most difficult thing you’re going to encounter is probably based on your manual dexterity as you have to place the ball perfectly each time. While it’s definitely still a skilled role, the croupier for Roulette has a simpler time than the Craps table.

Blackjack- This is probably the most difficult table to work by a good margin. Blackjack has one of the lowest margins for a casino game and is regularly beset with advantage players and card counters that the dealer must be on constant alert for. Add to this Blackjack’s popularity as a target for scams and aspiring high rollers and the dealer must play perfect with outstanding awareness for a sustained period in order to prevent the casino losing a bundle.

So, we’re thinking Blackjack, but what about you? Which table do you think is hardest to work?
